Building a sense of community and belonging among students, and among us as faculty, leads us to feel efficacious with respect to our institutions. For example, I participated in a trial-run of my friend Nathifa Greene’s “Allegory of the Cave” activity in an actual cave near Shippensburg, Pennsylvania (February 2019).

Special thanks to Nathifa Greene, Assistant Professor of Philosophy, for organizing our adventure and Gettysburg College’s Experiential Education Office for providing guidance, equipment, and transportation!

I had a great time visiting my friend/coauthor/Social Democratic politician Faradj Koliev in Stockholm (July/August 2019), including this trip to the Riksdag (national parliament) and marching at Stockholm Pride! Special thanks to Cesar Vargas Iglesias, Social Democratic official and new friend, who gave me and Faradj a personal tour of the Riksdag!
